About Lisa Green, page 2

It would take her another six years to finally make the leap from "a corporate job" to a career of her own.

During this phase of her life Lisa had accumulated a large mountain of debt. Lisa admittedly overspent. After years of compounding interest and only making minimum payments Lisa acknowledged her spending habits were prohibiting a change in career (to a lower income but more fulfilling career). Therefore, she decided to change her spending habits and seek financial council. In 2004 Lisa filed Chapter 13 Bankruptcy to settle her debt. She paid back the court appointed amount one year earlier than her repayment schedule after receipt of funds from the sale of her mother's home [after her mother's death].

The period of 2005 through 2006 were cathartic, emotionally and physically life changing years for Lisa. During this time Lisa ended her long term same sex relationship; moved into her own place; was diagnosed with breast cancer; had surgery, chemotherapy, radiation; lost her mother to lung cancer; almost lost her father to a near fatal blood infection, among other things.

In the battle with cancer Lisa was reminded of the power of her mind. As Lisa puts it, "cancer made me a better person." Spiritually, emotionally, and mentally the experience, and subsequent recovery, taught Lisa valuable lessons about healing yourself, eating right, forgiveness and living life with joy.

For many years Lisa had adopted a lifestyle of excessive drinking, poor eating habits, and a negative attitude due to being unhappy in her work and unhappy in her relationship. At 180lbs, and just recently single, Lisa was diagnosed with breast cancer (her mother also had breast cancer at 40). In hindsight Lisa understands that her inertia regarding making the move to a career that suited her, and ending a long term tumultuous relationship, i.e. finding her life's purpose manifested externally with the breast cancer diagnosis at only 40 years old.

The battle to recovery was indeed a challenge. Lisa, without disability but with health insurance, felt enormous pressure to continue working through her treatment. At the time of the her illness she was the sole financial provider so taking a leave of absence wasn't financially feasible. Saving her remaining vacation days for chemo and radiation treatment was critical.

In June 2006 Lisa took the minimal time off to have breast cancer surgery.
